107 | Healing the Self, the Food System, and the Earth with Jon Katz

Jon Katz is an online personal coach based in New York City. Creator of NYC Foodways Coaching, which helps people transform their minds and bodies by using the same personal development program that saved his life when he was considering suicide at age 34. Jon’s program, based on the principle of replacing negative thought and behavior patterns with positive ones, is tailored for people struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive tendencies, negative self-talk, and low self-worth. Jon is also the creator and host of NYC Foodways, a YouTube channel where he covers food, culture, and the various nourishing traditions that link us all.

Jon joins me today to discuss his journey to personal healing. He describes what led him to a place of extreme nihilism and how he took back the narrative of his existence. He explains how making the transition from a place of nihilism to working on healing and personal development shocked his physical, nervous, and emotional systems. He discusses cognitive dissonance, aligning with the future self, and the link between mental and physical fitness. Jon also highlights how our relationship with food shapes our relationship with the earth, what participating in the NYC Foodways Coaching program looks like, and why honesty is a critical piece in healing the self.

“The way we interact with food is the way we interact with the earth, and the way we interact with the earth is who we are.” - Jon Katz
